The Honda Civic

With the totally redesigned 2012 Honda Civic, Honda has improved on previous models in several notable ways from its already top-selling model. There are a number of different models offered in the Honda Civic line; they include coupes, hatchbacks, and sedans, which come in high-efficiency HF, hybrid, and natural-gas powered alternative fuel models. The four-cylinder, 1.8L engine is paired with your choice of manual or automatic five-speed transmission. An additional 200 rpm coupled with an altered torque distribution provides for extra oomph during acceleration. Faster still is the Si high-performance series, which features a six-speed manual controlling a 2.35 liter engine. Honda's overall Honda Civic line increased performance objectives were reached with a five-speed transmission, which is why only the Si has been equipped with a six-speed. Unlike many redesigns, this year's model is not significantly heavier, and the sedan models are actually lighter than the 2011s.

Since the release of the Insight in 2002, fuel efficiency has been an organizational priority for Honda. The High Fuel Efficiency Honda Civic, the Honda Civic HF is, for the most part, similar to the basic Honda Civic Sedan. Slight modifications to the underbody, bumper, and even wheels and tires are part of the design to make the HF get the most MPGs as possible. For the Hybrid, Honda has beefed up the size of both the electric motor as well as the gas engine, resulting in noticeably improved acceleration performance; the gas mileage though, at 44/44 city/highway, actually improves upon the 2011 models. Moderate cruising speed can be provided through the use of the electric motor, whereas higher speed driving and acceleration require gas burning.

As required per new government safety regulations, each model in the new Honda Civic series provides ABS and a stability system with traction control. The 2012 Honda Civics also come standard with six airbags. Another interior safety upgrade was the removal of the active head restraints; by modifying the front seats to protect actively against whiplash protection, designers were able to increase cabin comfort without any loss in safety.

Buyers can choose from higher-quality cloth seats than the previous generation offered, or genuine leather interiors. Most Honda Civics come with the I-MID, which is the first multifunction controller the brand has put in their vehicles.
